How to Add Application Scopes
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for Azure application owners to add scopes using Resource Admin. Adding scopes is essential for defining permissions and controlling access levels for your application's users and services.
Prerequisites
- Access to the Resource Admin portal.
- Permission to manage the relevant Azure application.
Steps to Add Application Scopes
1. Log in to Resource Admin
- Open the Resource Admin portal.
- Enter your credentials and log in.
2. Navigate to Applications
- From the Resource Type menu, select Applications.
- Search for the Azure application you want to manage.
3. Access the Application Overview
- Click the Friendly Name link for the desired application.
- You will be directed to the Overview page for the application.
4. Create a New Scope
- On the Overview page, click Scopes.
- Expand the Actions accordion and click Create Azure Application Scope.
- The Create Azure Application Scope form will open.
5. Fill in Scope Details
- Complete the form with the following fields:
- Scope Name: Enter a name for the scope (e.g.,
read.Calendar
). - Who Can Consent: Select the type of users who can consent to the scope. Options:
- Admins and Users: Both admins and users can consent.
- Admins Only: Only admins can consent.
- Admin Consent Name: Enter the name of the consent that appears to admins.
- Admin Consent Description: Provide a description for admin consent (e.g., "Application can read your Email Calendar").
- User Consent Display Name: Enter the name of the consent that appears to users.
- User Consent Description: Provide a description for user consent.
- Select a Location: Choose a location in EmpowerID for the application role. If a default location is pre-selected, you can change it by clicking the location link and selecting a new location from the Location Tree.

- Click Next to review the scope details.
- Confirm the information and click Submit to create the scope.
